Trash Talk – Week 35

Last night was a late, alcohol infused night in the centre of Birmingham and today I’m feeling well ragged and having difficulty writing even the slightest bit eloquently – getting far too old for this life of hedonistic practices… but hey, before crashing out on the sofa for the rest of the evening, here are this weeks Trash Talk heroes and villains…

Professor Stephen Hawking, Match of the Day, Andrew Strauss, Garth Crooks, our British Summer and Simon Cowell – are you ‘Up on the Boardwalk‘ or ‘Down in the Sewer‘?

Up On The Boardwalk

Professor Stephen Hawking

In a rare public performance, British scientist Professor Stephen Hawking at the Paralympic opening ceremony, offered a global message of hope and optimism – “Look up at the stars, and not down at your feet“. Something we could all learn from.

Match of the Day

Two weeks into the season and West Bromwich Albion are eventually added to the opening credits with a clip of Zoltan Gera scoring a wonderful goal against Liverpool. Did someone just forget to add the Baggies? Did someone think that no-body cared? Did someone think that we are not big enough to be in there? Unbelievable!!!

Andrew Strauss

England captain Andrew Strauss has retired from all forms of cricket. Strauss scored 7,037 Test runs at an average of 40.91, leaving him ninth in England’s all-time run-scorers list. During his time in charge, England became the world’s best Test team for the first time. For me, he will be best remembered for brilliantly winning two ashes series against the Australians. Take a bow that man!

Meanwhile Down In The Sewer

Garth Crooks’s team of the week

Yes it’s that knob-head Garth Crooks making his second appearance in a week. In a weekend that Swansea beat West Ham 3-0, and the Baggies earned an impressive 1-1 draw against the Spurs, to go 2nd and 3rd in the Premier League table respectively, he has no place in his team of the week for even 1 player from these two teams. Same old story, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are well represented though. Garth Crooks = Twat!!!

Our British Summer

Well the year started after one of the driest winters on record followed by the wettest Summer in 100 years. I personally got soaked at more than one music festival this year, attended a one day cricket international against Australia at Edgbaston that got abandoned without a ball being bowled and spent many an unhappy hour staring out of the window at the antediluvian conditions. As Carole King uncanninly predicted, “It Might As Well Rain Until September“…

Simon Cowell

No reason. I just hate Simon Cowell and his arrogant belittling smirk!!!
